Describe a typical day in your role
I arrive at office on time at 9:00am then start to prepare for the day and have my cup of tea. Sometimes I have briefings with team supervisors (I manage two teams, Recruiting Team and Payroll/Employee Relationship team) to talk through what they are working on at the moment or to share ideas and plans for what we are going to do next. I will use half hour to read and reply emails and I must prioritize them so that I can move forward to finish other tasks. My team and I also help managers to recruit their people and we will conduct interviews with managers together by following recruiting procedures. We talk to managers to help them coach their people properly. If people are not working well and not delivering what they are supposed to then we will give some advice to their managers to challenge that employee to improve. Sometimes I will have meetings with Divisional Heads/Mangers, we exchange our perspectives on various HR topics, HR is a very important function in ANDRITZ China and we value our people very highly here. Their welfare, loyalty and effectiveness is of paramount importance to us, hence the importance of the HR function. After the meeting usually I will propose some action plans to stakeholders, once the propose is endorsed we will take actions. I believe HR should be the business partner with divisions and speak in their language, mange good relationship with divisions is one of my most important role here. I usually head out the door at about 6:00pm, I talk to my team members before they off duty, caring, coaching and motivating are also my tasks.

What skills have you gained since working at Compamy?
This job need to be good at communicating. Being able to listen and understand what people are saying is vital as well as getting across your own ideas or points to others in a way that makes sense to them. You also need lots of energy and the motivation to keep going when things get difficult and to keep my team and my colleagues positive and believing that things can be better, you have to find some ways to manage your stress before helping others, that makes me focus on problem solving and become a fast thinker.

What is the best part of your job?
I can communication with different people and listen to them, to work with them together and really making a difference to the environment that people work in. I really enjoy the moment that I can make an impact on how happy people are during their time at work because we spend about 2/5 of our waking hours at work.

What advice would you give to a young graduate who is considering a career in your sector?
Be yourself, be open-minded, keep looking ahead. Once you have got to grips with your studies or job to feel that you are doing it well, think about what you want to do next and the most of every opportunity to learn new things.
